My Story
I hit me like a brick. In October 2010 my gut started to churn and drop. Soon after the blood started to appear in my stool. Within a week I was suffering from the pain in my lower abdomen, with increasing visits to the bathroom. The blood increased, the bathroom visits went from a couple times a day to 15-20 times. What went in, came out in a liquid bloody mess. I had lost so much blood that I was severely anemic and had so little energy that I was walking slower than a 95 years old woman (I was 31). One week in the hospital and 40mg of Prednisone, Salofalk enimas and 4 pills of Mezavant a day calmed the storm in my colon momentarily. I was sent home with my meds and told "eat anything you want." After tapering to 30 mg of the Prednisone, the blood reappeared. Back to 40 mg of Prednisone I went for a second tapering attempt. This time, my Salofalk and Mezavant prescriptions had run out (only prescribed for 30 days). My health deteriorated quickly. Within 3 weeks, I was back in the bathroom 15+ times per day, emptying bloody liquid each time. This time around I couldn't keep anything down, I developed acne all over my body, my ankles, lower legs and knees swelled to a point that I could not bend them as the pain was unbearable. I had developed bursitis not only in my knees but also in my upper spine, sternum and left shoulder. In horrible shape, I spent another week in the hospital.....
